Hello there,
I have been using Canon EOS 700D a.k.a Rebel T5i for about 6 months now. I thought I could give my review and experience about this camera. This is review completely based on my experience and I have no intentions to over boast the product.
I bought Canon EOS 700D 6 months ago through Amazon. The services were nice and I received the product intact. One must note that irrespective of what brand it is, no DSLRs give a sharp and clear image in the beginning itself. This not only happened with me but also my friend who bought Nikon D7200 as well. I don't know the actual reason for this. I bought the camera with the 18-55mm IS 2 with 55-250mm IS 2 lens. In the beginning I thought there was a problem with the DSLR's CMOS sensor, as the images appeared grainy, but ignored it. Later on the camera gave me the performance which exceeded my expectations!
I am not a regular photographer. Photography is just my hobby. I love experimenting with different kinds of lighting and shutter speeds. Canon as far as performance is concerned, it has proven its ability right in front of my eyes.
Here is a quick look at the specifications of the DSLR:
The camera also comes with an STM lens. Most of the Rebel T5i models sold in the US come with 18-55mm STM lens. The advantage of the STM lens is the reduced noise during the autofocussing.

Due to its very nice ergonomics, this camera has made a permanent position in my mind. I will now tell you about a photoshoot experience I had in a beach. My three friends and me had been to a photoshoot in a nearby beach.I had taken the 55-250mm lens with me and also the friend who owned the Nikon D7200 was with us. It was bright sunshine and the scenes we were shooting was well lit. We not only took the group pictures, but the lighting encouraged me to take some portraits as well, and the result was mind blowing! I would like to share some of the pictures here:
This picture was captured candid. But it turned out to be really good!
Picture above is a bit overexposed. But the way the scene is captured by the CMOS is mindblowing!
There are some portraits I'd like you to see in the beach lighting:
This is the picture of my friend. The aperture was wide open, so the background is way too blurred. The details of the image it captured, and the response of the camera was very nice. This friend of mine too owns a blog. Do give a visit: http://nihalbhat.blogspot.in/
This is a picture shot with the coast guard radio transmitter as the background. Though it was a broad day light, I had used flash light so that the facial expressions would be distinct. The f stop value was large, so one can notice that the background is not blurred as the earlier one.
I am a fan of B&W. Yes, it gives the portraits a wonderful tone. This was shot infront of a rock near the beach. One can notice the lighting. The way 700D has captured it is fantastic.
If you are buying the camera, go for it, It will never disappoint you in anyway. But do not forget to go for the STM lens. If you would like to see the movie performance, visit this URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja1kGhkt48A
The only problem you would face is a noisy lens during autofocus which can be eliminated with the help of a STM lens.
Conclusion - Pros
- Comprehensive touchscreen interface that is intuitive and efficient
- High image quality with good balance between detail and noise reduction in JPEG output
- Good subject tracking AF in viewfinder shooting mode (compared to mirrorless competition)
- 5 fps with ample buffering in JPEG-only mode
- Very responsive operation, with menu access available even when buffer is full
- Good-looking video output with manual exposure and audio controls
- Built-in lens correction for vignetting and CA
- Effective HDR, lowlight and noise reduction multi-exposure modes
- Wireless strobe triggering via built-in flash
- Eye sensor to toggle LCD on and off
- Built-in stereo mics
- External microphone socket
- Updated LCD screen minimizes fingerprint smudges from touchscreen use
- High quality raw converter in software bundle
Conclusion - Cons
- Slow 'hybrid AF' performance in live view and video modes (compared to mirrorless competition)
- Slightly higher noise levels than its peers
- Default dynamic range lags a bit behind its peers
- Using flash with Auto ISO enabled results in ISO 400 even in bright light conditions
- Cannot configure common live view and movie mode options independently
- AF illuminator integrated into flash (must have flash engaged to use it)
- Shorter battery life than other DSLRs in its class
